Repair Virtual Memory Related Issues
Virtual memory is a process used by most modern computers that enables them to run more applications and have access to more information simultaneously. Most computers today are equipped with 64 or 128 megabytes of RAM or Random Access Memory. RAM is used by applications the way it sounds, randomly, as it is pulled out and used to access information as required rather than sequentially. In addition to RAM memory computers also have hard drive memory space and use portable device memory spaces such as cds or dvds.

While our computer systems are able to run multiple applications at the same time, the amount of memory required actually far exceeds the amount of RAM memory available. Virtual memory is a technology that allows a program or application to perceive that there is enough RAM space available for it to run when there actually isn’t by fragmenting the memory needed between the RAM memory available to access immediate information and storing unused parts of the application or program on the hard drive. So the parts of the program that the operating system requires are stored on RAM memory chips and the parts that are dormant are stored on the hard drive by the operating system and the program both think that the entire application is available in the same place at the same time.
Using virtual memory is possible because of the way that information is loaded on to page files and organized by addresses rather than stored in one chunk. In this way your computer is able to run many more programs and applications at the same time than would otherwise be possible. Essentially the technology tricks the computer and the applications into thinking that there is much more RAM space available than there actually is. Without virtual memory we wouldn’t be able to run an operating system, an internet browser, a word processor and an email server without the computer asking for more RAM and being unable to follow user commands.
A problem related to virtual memory occurs when the computer spends too much time shuffling memory files between RAM and virtual memory and thus seems to work slowly. This can be addressed by designing better application programs or, if your computer is often slow when running multiple programs then you can always install more RAM to increase the computer’s actual memory.
