What are Computer Diagnostics
Computer Diagnostics refer to the state of a computer system’s various components including the hardware, software, operating system or network of systems of which the computer is a part. Diagnostic systems enable users to monitor the system’s processes and guide them through possible solutions if errors are encountered. Diagnostic programs are written to locate and examine problems and provide solutions for the user without necessitating professional technical assistance as much as possible.
Different parts of the computer system and different types of technology require and use different diagnostic maintenance systems and management. Diagnostic scenarios that are built in to programs such as operating systems like Linux or Windows automatically record events in a log and generate a history of problems that have been fixed automatically in order to provide information for technicians in the future in case the system encounters problems that require external processing.

There are diagnostic programs and processes for different types of computer issues such as those run on demand, usually within operating systems. In this case, while a user is running a system like Windows or Linux, the system itself is monitoring and troubleshooting problems so that if an error occurs it can communicate with the user and offer possible solutions.
Some diagnostic programs are designed to monitor and troubleshoot specific programs and are referred to as ‘defined-purpose’ such as those built in to Microsoft Windows. These diagnostic programs enable users to independently monitor and solve problems utilizing the program’s internal knowledge of the errors that have been encountered.
There are also diagnostic programs that run outside of the computer’s primary operating system including diagnostic software programs and background diagnostics that run like a computer’s “black box” monitoring the system. In this case the diagnostic program is a hardware component that build commands into the system’s hard drive that create information logs about some error conditions and some are equipped with capabilities to automatically correct problems. Modular diagnostics are performed during hardware assembly or software development in stages in order to monitor particular requirements.
Commercial diagnostic programs are designed to analyze and benchmark computer systems. They are able to monitor the performance of components like the hardware, hard disk and motherboard. By scanning the computer system these programs can record the operating conditions of various processes, internal and external. By monitoring and detecting problems that your system has encountered as well as those that it has automatically repaired keeps your system running well and can expedite troubleshooting and problem solving.
