Uploading and downloading information to and from the Internet puts users at risk of inadvertently allowing malicious applications to access their systems. Many malware products are designed to run in the background of computer systems and can lurk for days or weeks, running harmful applications, before users even notice they are there. Rather than detect and remove harmful programs from your computer after they have already gained access and done damage, ActiveShield is designed to monitor the way that your Web browser interacts on the Internet in order to prevent malware from gaining access in the first place.
ActiveShield monitors the pages that your system’s web browser visits alerting the user to malicious or suspicious locations and monitors tracking cookies that are installed in your system at different sites in order to warn the user about potentially dangerous ones.
In order to prevent Trojans and spyware ActiveShield guards the folders that users have saved and stored on their computer systems. ActiveShield monitors for changes that might occur within files and folders; such as copies, creation or deletion, in order to identify intrusions and unauthorized modifications that would be otherwise undetectable by the user.
ActiveShield monitors the operating system’s autorun list, those programs that are configured to run automatically when the computer is turned on, preventing the launch of Trojans or spyware that is often designed to launch in that way. If there are new or suspicious autorun applications ActiveShield alerts the user to changes and potential intrusion.
ActiveShield offers an option to scan and monitor emails and attachments that are sent and received, and can even monitor instant messaging programs like Microsoft Messenger to make sure that dangerous attachments are not able to gain access to your system.
ActiveShield can be configured to start automatically as soon as you turn your computer on. This offers the user the best possible protection but can also prevent legitimate information from accessing or being accessed by your system. For this reason the user can specify the configurations of the ActiveShield and apply it manually.
