Computers are composed of an operating system, hardware, and software. In order for either the operating system or the software to communicate with the various hardware devices, device drivers are needed.
When you bought your computer, it came pre-installed with all of the device drivers it needed for the devices installed on it. As you added hardware such as printers and upgraded keyboards, you also likely installed the device drivers that came with each device. How long has it been since you updated the drivers? Never? Did you know that hardware manufacturers regularly release updated drivers? They do this for a variety of reasons including addressing known issues, adding new features, and fixing problems.
Your out-of-date device drivers could be causing computer errors and system crashes. They could be conflicting with other devices. Your hardware may not even be working anymore due to corrupt or missing drivers. While you could manually search for updated drivers, it’s a great deal of work.
Several utilities exist do automate driver management. Some are loaded with extra features that you may or may not need. Driver Agent is one of the more basic driver management utilities with an emphasis on detecting your computer’s hardware and identifying its current device driver configuration.
Driver Agent will determine whether a particular driver is out of date or not. Once the report has been compiled, if you have a Driver Agent subscription, you can then download the current version. You can get started with Driver Agent by running a free scan. The scanner goes through your computer and analyzes each device found before generating a hardware report. This hardware report features a pie chart that graphically displays the results of the scan. The green part indicates the amount of “good” drivers you have on your system while the red part indicates the amount of “bad” drivers you have. Below the pie chart, you’ll see all of the details including your disk drives, display adapters, CD/DVD drives, controllers, keyboards, mice, monitors, processors, network adapters, and system devices.
Next to each device, you’ll see either a green check mark or a red “x.” You’ll also see an icon when a newer driver is available for download. If you want to download the updated device driver, you’ll need a subscription to the Driver Agent software. While the scan is free, you’ll need to upgrade to the paid subscription in order to update your device drivers. Fair is fair, right? Using Driver Agent is easy.
Because Driver Agent focuses on supplying you with updated device drivers for your hardware, it’s not cluttered with other options. Simply scan, review the hardware report, and download the updated device drivers. You can also perform a search to see if a particular device driver is available. Simply enter the keywords and the operating system and view the results. Driver Agent is a web-based application that requires a yearly membership. For about $30 per year, you get unlimited access to current device drivers for all of your computers.
Driver Agent also comes with a 30-day, risk free guarantee. Updating device drivers manually is cumbersome and it doesn’t always go as planned. With utilities such as Driver Agent, you can find updated device drivers in one place and immediately begin downloading and installing the correct versions for your specific devices.
