What are EXE Files and How to Repair EXE Problems
An exe file, or an Executable file is indicated by the extension “.exe” and is pronounced by the letters e-x-e. Simply put .exe files are most often program files and are thus “executable” because opening them opens code, initiates a program and empowers functions to operate in your computer system. .exe programs are used to run various operations on your computer and basically account for everything that your computer can do.
In contrast to other file types such as .doc or .zip files that contain text or compressed information respectively, .exe files contain programs and opening them begins operations in your computer. Many .exe files that computers run are downloaded software and media files. It is important to think about .exe files when downloading files from the internet since when they are opened the programs run any and all operations that are encoded within and are not always what they seem.

Seemingly innocent files such as music or videos are often vehicles for viruses hidden inside and become operational as soon as they are opened. While you only see the information you wanted, such as a video, a virus can be running code in the background that you are unaware of, rendering your system unstable or inoperable within hours, days or weeks. Additionally, some virus programs can access personal information and passwords that you have stored on your computer and can send them to external sites jeopardizing your personal security. In this respect it is important to run .exe files through a virus scanner before you download or open them and to not open files that are emailed to you from unknown senders.
Some .exe problems include overloaded and confused file systems, incomplete uninstalls that leave only partial program code on your computer and aging file residue. For these problems regular system maintenance and removing old, unused and incomplete programs from your computer.
