Description: The file iexplore.exe is part of the Internet Explorer browser created by Microsoft Corporation. Internet Explorer is a built-in Internet browser in all MS Windows OS platform versions. The latest version of the program is Internet Explorer 7.
The iexplore.exe process is a part of MS Windows OS versions. It is intended to be used for navigating the Internet. It is the default Internet browser of the windows operating system. It also offers configurable settings that will allow you to set your own homepage and save your most frequent visited sites.
Internet Explorer may also save your Internet activity with the use of its history function. This means you may set the number of days you wish to have your visited websites tracked down by the built-in feature of the Internet Explorer application.
The file iexplore.exe is located in the folder C:\ Program Files\ Internet Explorer. The file takes up 92,000Kb of hard drive space and consumes 16Kb of memory resources. Files that hold functional associations with the process iexplore.exe include the module hmmapi.dll and the iedw.exe process.
The current version of the file iexplore.exe is 7.0.000. The file iexplore.exe has several registry keys, some of which include:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ *\ OpenWithList\ IExplore.exe;
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ .swf\ OpenWithList\ IExplore.exe;
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ Applications;
and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ htmlfile \ shell\ open\ command.
Since the file iexplore.exe is bundled with all MS Windows OS versions, there is no necessity to uninstall or remove this file. If the process iexplore.exe is encountering errors, repairing this file is a good solution. To repair the iexplore.exe file, go to Control Panel. Afterwards, cick on the Add/Remove Programs icon and choose the option Add Remove Windows Components on the Add/Remove Programs applet. Look for the Internet Explorer option in order to remove the check beside it. Follow the instructions on the succeeding pop-up boxes and click on the Finish button afterwards. At this point, restart your machine. Once your computer has rebooted, go back to the Add Remove Windows Component screen in order to place a check on the tic box beside the Internet Explorer option. Next, click on the Next and Finish buttons in succession. Reboot the computer after doing this.
Another way of fixing a corrupted iexplore.exe file is by running sfc /scannow in DOS mode or in the Run command. This utility will copy all the system files including bundled files like the process iexplore.exe from the MS Windows OS installation disk. It will replace the corrupted version of the file found in C:\ Program Files\ Internet Explorer\ with a stable copy of the file from the disk.
Recommendations: This is a safe process. There is no necessity to remove this process from your system unless you suspect that it may be a malicious program masquarading under a legit file name. If you are experiencing problems with this process we suggest:
