WRS File Extension Description

WordPerfect is a program developed by Corel. It was one of the earliest word processors. During its time, it was one of the few programs that could be run on a number of operating systems. The application can run on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Apple IIe, Apple IIgs, VMS, Data General, AmigaOS, Atari ST, NeXTSTEP, OS/2, Atari ST, and most versions of Unix, Linux and MS-DOS.

Dr. Alan Ashton and Bruce Bastian were the ones who developed the program. They later founded Satellite Software International, Inc. The company name was later changed to WordPerfect Corporation.

WordPerfect was originally meant for Data General minicomputers. Later versions enabled the program to be used with several platforms. The program was first included in a program suite when the WordPerfect Corporation developed the WordPerfect Library for Novell NetWare. The Borland Software Corporation was later given the license to market the word processor with its Borland Office program suite. The Corel Corporation eventually acquired the WordPerfect Corporation. It is now part of Corel?s WordPerfect Suite.

The WordPerfect program uses the WRS file extension. Files with the WRS file extension are particular to the Windows version of the product. The Windows Printer Driver uses the file extension .wrs.

A driver is a process that allows the program to be used with several operating systems and hardware. The driver with WRS file extension is included in the program so that it can communicate with the Windows operating system. The general source code of the program doesn?t change whether it is used with other operating systems or not. Programmers add drivers like the one with the file extension .wrs to accommodate different devices and platforms.

The program uses files that have the WRS file extension whenever a document needs to be printed.
