WOW File Extension Description

The file type .wow is also known as the Grave Composer Music Module. The file extension .wow is also similarly compiled and archived with the .mod file extension. It is an earlier audio module format designed originally for programs running under the DOS Environment. As identified to be created for this system platform, the .wow file extension types contain a rather smaller capacity for channel information; in this case, only capable of a maximum of eight.

As the original program running the WOW file format, Mod's Grave is no longer being distributed due to the emergence of many audio modules with better lossless factors and higher channel capacities for simultaneous sound simulations.

However, there are programs for the 32-bit operating systems that still recognize and are able to open and manipulate older file types; and the .wow file extension is one of them.

The freeware plug-in application the MODPlug Tracker is designed to open and access many different audio files, and unravel these into separate channel representations in the graphical user interface of the program. As for a .wow file type, the MODPlug Tracker is able to call in and load the selected .wow file and create several operating lines for each channel with returning music information.

The user interface of the MODPlug is similar to an equalizer, wherein the different features are modified for the specific sound synthesis. These, of course, are made more convenient in the composer to user context, as well as in file menus for effect selection. Any distortion and alteration to the original sound data found in each channel is then saved and archived under the same .wow file extension.
