VRM File Extension Description

The file extension VRM is often used to refer to the VRML file format, or the Virtual Reality Modeling Language type of file. These types of files, which use the .vrm file extension, contain images that are meant to be displayed on the Internet. Files with the VRM file extension use vector graphics to create a three dimensional object. This means that using simple geometrical shapes such as curves, lines, shapes and points creates the images.

Files with the .vrm file extension are published on the internet and may be viewed by using specific programs or internet browser plug-ins. Programs like the Cortona VRML Client program are able to view files with VRM file extensions that are published online. Applications such as these are treated as add-on applications, which enable other programs to view VRML content. When applications such as these are installed, web published VRML content can be viewed with Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape Browser. Office programs like Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word can also view VRML content.

The Quattro Pro application also uses the .vrm file extension to mark its overlay files. The program creates spreadsheets, which can be modified, customized and animated for business presentation purposes. Files with the VRM file extension are used to create overlays for the applications spreadsheets. Overlays enable the placement of a second element over the first one. They are often image or text files that add a third dimension to an existing file.

The file extension .vrm is also used to mark files that contain source code for the Visual Rexx programming language. Rexx is a highly structured programming language that is designed to be read easily and understood. VisualRexx is a version of the original language that is specific to the building of images. Programs like VisPro REXX are used to build complete strings of commands from code files that have the file extension .vrm.
