TLD File Extension Description
The TLD file extension identifies Tag Library Descriptor Files that are written in the Java programming language. Files in the .tld file extension declare, tags and are used in the redistribution of tag files, or on the implementation of custom tags along with tag handlers that are written in Java.
Tag files are names that are found in header or source files of different programming languages. Variables, class members, functions, and macros can be indexed in the Java programming language, and tags let definitions be located easily and quickly by the text editor or any utility.
Files in the .tld file extension are XML documents that have information about the whole library and every tag inside it. Web containers in validating tags, as well as development tools for JSP pages utilize tag library descriptor files with the .tld file extension.
Files in the .tld file extension are stored in the directory /web-inf/, or in its subdirectory of a WAR file or in the directory /meta-inf/, or in a tag library sub-directory archived in a JAR file. When a tag?s implementation is in a tag file, it is packaged as /web-inf/tags/, or in a subdirectory, a file with the .tld file extension will be created automatically by a web container, but you can also provide one if you prefer.
Files in the .tld file extension declare tag files that are defined in a tag library. A tag library can also specify classes that are also event listeners. Although a tag library descriptor is not really needed for tag files, if you provide a tag library descriptor, it lets you share tags across several tag libraries, and enables you to import using a URL instead of a tagdir attribute for a tag library.
Files in the .tld file extension declare a tag file by utilizing a tag-file element. Sub elements of tag files includes a description, a display name, an icon, a unique tag name, a path where to find a tag file, and optional example of the tag?s use, and a tag extension that gives extra information regarding the tag.
