TCL File Extension Description
The TCL file extension is also known as the tool command language file that is used for SLIDE or Scene Language for Interactive Dynamic Environments. Files in the .tcl file extension are languages for interacting and describing a dynamic environment that is hierarchal.
SLIDE uses the TCL file extension to store files of its dynamic scripting language. The .slf file extension is parsed by the SLIDE viewer in the DAG, and is rendered by utilizing an OpenGL for three-dimensional graphics, while the TK and TCL file extension is used for windowing interface.
John Ousterhout originally developed the TCL file extension. Files in the .tcl file extension contain scripting languages that are embedded in applications such as SLIDE. Files in the .tcl file extension are commonly used for scripted applications, testing, GUIs and rapid prototyping.
SLIDE was designed to be easy to use for the purpose of education. Moreover, this is a rendering system that allows three-dimensional scene language. It has two key purposes and the first is to give 3D computer graphics education for students, and to give them a foundation for finding new applications and algorithms for rendering.
To be able to meet the needs for education, a simple 3D geometric set and a mechanism for instancing, forms the core of the SLIDE. Files in the .tcl file extension are set-up in a class structure in C++, enabling users to add primitive objects in the system.
SLIDE was initially developed for teaching undergraduates in college about three-dimensional rendering and modeling. The SLIDE language allows students to be trained in 3D transformation procedural modeling and scene hierarchies. It functions as a powerful tool for modeling, and also allows users to view projects in real time.
Users can rotate objects to be able to view it in any angle by using an interface called "crystal ball?. In addition, SLIDE is used for creating animations and applications in virtual reality.
