TAP File Extension Description
The file extension .tap is used by Commodore 64 software. The Commodore 64 is a computer model that was released in 1982. Commodore 64 software uses the TAP file extension for its cassette tape images. One of the earliest forms of removable memory used was cassette tape. Files were stored in the magnetic strips of cassette tapes by attaching a tape deck to computers. Files stored in this way with the Commodore 64 computers were given the .tap file extension.
Other programs and computers also used the TAP file extension for data stored in cassette tapes. Jupiter Ace, a home microcomputer that was popular in the early part of the 1980?s, uses the file format. An 8-bit computer from the same era named Oric Atmost also used the .tap file extension for snapshots saved in cassette tapes.
The TAP file extension is also used to store embroidery files. Files with the .tap file extension are used by Happy Embroidery Machines. These machines automatically create a piece of embroidery based on a file with the .tap file extension. The company that created the machine is called TEXMAC, Inc. They offer a number of programs that can be used with it. Some software that can be used to create embroidery files with the .tap file extension are the Stitch & Sew Embroidery Studio, CompuCon EOS Creator Plus, iPunch @ Home and iPunch Professional.
Embroidery patterns that use the .tap file extension often contain images that have been digitized then translated into embroidery stitches. Each file has a code that can be read by the Happy Embroidery Machines. These files can also be edited and converted using the Embird line of programs.
The GeoPath line of programs also uses the .tap file extension. GeoPath is a suite of computer assisted design and computer-aided manufacturing programs. These programs are used to create and simulate milling. These programs help manufacturers and designers design and analyze metal shapes. GeoPath software uses the .tap file extension to mark its editor files. Files that have the TAP file extension contain the source code for the editing function of the programs. These are used to modify existing designs and shapes created with the GeoPath program.
