PFT File Extension Description

The .pft file extension is associated with the printer font family, generated by the ChiWriter software application, which is considered as a multi-font scientific word processing program. The ChiWriter, which produces the file extension .pft, was introduced in 1995 and intended for deployment under the MS-DOS platform, and was subsequently ported to the Microsoft Window 3.xx and the Windows 95 Operating System environments. Under the environment of Microsoft Windows, the .pft file extension related application could be executed via an associated program icon, where it generates its individual user graphic screen, which offers resolutions that can accommodate support for the mouse pointing device.

When utilizing the .pft file extension under the Microsoft Windows Operating System platform, the new file option must be chosen under the Program Manager, after the selection of the icon?s program group. In the option for new program, the location, parameters, and name associated with the CW program must be indicated, prior to the declaration of the working folder or directory, where the file extension .pft would be stored. Icons to be associated with the software application can be chosen from the standard Windows supplied icons, or from those that are incorporated with the ChiWriter program, included in the installation package. To execute the software with a document open, the MYDOC.CHI component must be indicated in the program startup; otherwise, no document would be open by default during program execution.

Although the .pft file extension can be launched under the Windows environment, the application inherently does not support multitasking, and therefore makes it impossible to switch to other Windows while working with the ChiWriter. A workaround for this limitation is to use the combination keys of Alt + Tab to choose which Window to activate, and return to the ChiWriter when saving to the .pft file extension default program format. The file extension .pft can also support user designed printer drivers, as long as they conform to the standards of the ChiWriter, based on the defined guidelines provided under the program manuals.
