NTX File Extension Description

The yEnc compression method was developed as an alternative to uuencode and Base64 compression methods. All three compression processes were developed to encode binary files to plain ASCII text. This was done because binary files lost data when sent over the Internet. Base64 and uuencode used a 6-bit encoding method to convert binary files to plain text format. This process created files that were larger than the original. This was because they used a greater number of ASCII characters to denote bytes of data. On the other hand, yEncoding uses an 8-bit encoding method in ASCII format. This creates files that were significantly smaller than uuencode and Base64 created files.

yEnc32 is an open source program with a graphic user interface. It places the file extension .ntx in the files it encodes.

The PIMS Notes for Windows CE program also uses the NTX file extension. This application creates text documents. It is compatible with the Windows CE operating system. Handheld devices and mobile computers use the operating system. The PIMS Notes program is often included in personal digital assistants built in Korea. Text files created by the program use the .ntx file extension.

The Clipper programming language also uses the .ntx file extension. Files with the NTX file extension are used to hold descriptions of a Clipper database. Files that hold ASCII plain text characters use the .ntx file extension. Users can search files with the file extension .ntx for database information.

The NTX file extension is also used to store Marine Navigation Information for CARIS programs. The software by CARIS is used to create and view maps. The programs deal with existing information on bodies of water. The maps use the file with the .ntx file extension to check navigation routes of boats.
