The LogoManager was first used as a solution for older Nokia phones, and it also allowed users to edit their phonebooks and create back-ups in the computer as well.

The LogoManager also allowed design and creation of black and white logos, and ring tones in mono. For newer phones, the Logo Manager has a Mobile browser and a polyphonix Studio. Nokia phones can be connected to you computer, and you can then manage color logos in files with the .nlm file extension. You can also manage your ring tones, phonebook, Java games, and SMS messages just by utilizing the drag and drop feature in its user interface.

Another program that uses the NLM file extension is the Novell Netware. Novell NetWare is an operating system for networks and was first used for cooperative multitasking in computers. The NLM file extension is used for the Netware Loadable Modules, and is known as the building blocks that customize the Netware operating system. Files in the .nlm file extension are developed to run in the memory of the server with NetWare.

The NetWare Loadable Module file with the .nlm file extension contains a module with a binary code. This module is loaded for execution in Novell NetWare. Files in the .nlm file extension execute the core of the operating system; these can be used as server functions, hardware drivers, applications, and libraries for Netware. Files in the .nlm file extension can automatically load other NLM files if they are dependent on it.

Upon loading, a file in the .nlm file extension asks for resources such as process and memory threads from the kernel of Netware. The kernel keeps track of requests and is also involved in the identification of memory resources that are defined to a particular file with the .nlm file extension.
