NIF File Extension Description

NetShift, Ltd. designed a web browser for use with a local network called NetShift. The program connects several computers in a network. The software can be used by touch screen computer kiosks and computers linked by a corporate intranet. The network administrator to control several aspects of the Internet connection can use the program. NetShift has built in security protocols and a support system for other applications.

The interface for the NetShift browser is encoded in a file that has the NIF file extension. The interface serves as the face of the program. The programming language C++ is used to create files with the NIF file extension. NetImmerse also has the 3D plug-ins Max and Maya to help in the creation of three-dimensional designs. A realistic tool for mesh, or skin, design is also used. Files with the .nif file extension can contain deformable mesh technology, which would allow the skin of a 3D object to move with the underlying structure for more realism.

Numerical Design Limited developed NetImmerse. The company released another game authoring software called Gamebryo. Gamebryo also uses the NIF file extension for its saved projects. Gamebryo uses an updated version of the technology used for NetImmerse. Licensed users of Gamebryo can now access the source code of the program for greater modification control.
