NES File Extension Description
The file extension .nes is a format classified as an emulator, which in generic terms refers to the duplication of the capabilities of a system on a different machine that will allow the target system to react in a way similar to the source machine. The intention of emulators like the file extension .nes is to reproduce the exact external model behavior, as against the abstract simulation implemented in other computer systems.
The file extension .nes is specific to the ROM image generated for use of emulators of the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) games. The file extension .nes is a container of similar data found in game cartridges for the NES, with the exception that they are commonly executed in personal computers. The program allows the PC to mimic the NES with the same intensity of play, and comparatively equal visual expression that allows the user a similar gaming experience when using the NES gaming console.
Emulator programs commonly come with an associated instruction document on how it must be deployed in a computer system. In general, there are three requisites for a successful deployment of .nes file extension types; adherence to system requisites, system ROMs, and the presence of the data file, which in this case is the NES format. The file extension .nes is commonly downloadable from the Internet, which can then be stored in any storage type that can accommodate its file size.
The ROM referenced by the .nes file extension pertains to the actual game container (as opposed to commonly known Read Only Memory of computer systems), which is the exact duplicate of the game cartridges used in the original game console. These files are represented by the file extension .nes and similar types, which are loaded to the emulators to allow game play.
In other emulator systems, the term ROM can be synonymous to disk images, which are file representations of the contents of entire floppies. Another similar term that can be associated with the file extension .nes is the hardfile that is similar to the disk file except that it is a representation of hard drives instead of floppies, which are all required by emulators to initiate the game. These file types are easily accessible from the web, or newsgroups that are specific to the supported emulator system.
