the Multimedia Container Format uses The MCF file extension. The file extension .mcf was designed to hold several audio and video files in one container. Files with the file extension MCF are used so that a movie can be sent in one file. Movies with the MCF file extension can also contain subtitles and additional information about the file.

The Multimedia Container Format was developed as an improvement on the AVI file format. MPEG1 is just one of the media formats that can be contained in container files that have the .mcf file extension.

The SignIQ program by Impulse Logic also uses the Multimedia Content Format. The program allows users to stored media files in one container. The container file used has the .mcf file extension. Files with the MCF file extension created by this application contain media files and images used for creating and designing labels for stores.

The Meta Content Framework also uses the file extension .mcf. Files with the .mcf file extension are used to contain data structures. Ramanathan V. Gutha developed the specification for the MCF file extension. The most recent version of the MCF file extension can use XML language to format data. The format is often used by websites.

Gutha also developed the HotSauce program. The application can create a three-dimensional interpretation of a file with the MCF file extension. Files with the MCF file extension can contain metadata of hard drive space or websites. HotSauce allows users to navigate these files in 3D.
