Microsoft Corporation categorizes The IDC file extension as a Web file. Described as an Internet Database Connector, the .idc file is one of the major components of the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) Web server that allow access to various ODBC-compliant database systems.
The IDC file is a tool utilized by the user to send queries to a database in any remote server, perform formatting, and return the data back to the user in the form of an HTML (HTX) page. This can easily be opened using any Web browser available in your system.
An IDC file can also be used to display IIS ODBC logs into a hypertext markup language (HTML) page. The file allows many Web-based database applications to obtain and display data using functions in programming languages, like Microsoft SQL, Access, Excel, and so on.
The compatibility and use of the IDC extension is often embedded into Microsoft-based operating systems, like XP Professional, 2000, and NT Workstation 4.0.
A file with the IDC format incorporates with the following fields for it to be usable by the system, like:
Datasource. The name that corresponds with the ODBC system's Data Source Name (DSN) created by an ODBC administrator.
Template. The field that specifies the HTML extension file format used to return data from a database query. Usually, the format used for this is HTX.
SQLStatement. This field contains the SQL statements to be executed during the IIS transaction.
Under the SQL statement fields, it should contain info, like parameter values, which are usually enclosed with a percent symbol. In truth, the majority of the data in an .idc file belong to SQL statements.
