DBC File Extension Description

Vector CAN programs use the file extension .dbc. Files that have the DBC file extension are CANdb network files. These files contain pertinent information about the network. Files with the DBC file extension store all the description about a network, from content to infrastructure. The CANdb editor and the CANdb++ editor can create these files. The programs CANalyzer and CANoe are two Vector CAN programs that can access and read the network files.

The OrCAD program also uses the file extension DBC. OrCAD is a tool used for the design of printed circuit boards. OrCAD is actually a suite of tools that include a printed circuit board editor, an auto/interactive router, optional analog and mixed signal operator along with a design capture tool. The file using the DBC file extension is used as the OrCAD Capture CIS Database Configuration file. The file is used to change and manipulate the settings when testing the effectiveness of the designed printed circuit board.

The Visual FoxPro program by Microsoft also uses files that have the DBC file extension. Visual FoxPro is used to make and manage 32-bit databases. A database contains a variety of information that is collated with one worksheet or table. Databases allow the program to easily access and manipulate the data. Files that contain data stored within the database use the .dbc file extension. Aside from data, the file also contains the formatting used by the program to manage and collate the information.

The most recent versions of the Visual FoxPro program use object-oriented programming. Object oriented programming uses objects and their relationships as the basis of creating codes and commands. The program uses this programming language to make components and use them for several applications.

The program also uses XML language to edit files with the .dbc file extension. XML is a formatting or markup language that can be used to change the appearance of text files as well as to manipulate data.
