• The Claris Corporation originally developed ClarisWorks, which was a subsidiary of Apple, Inc. The program was later renamed AppleWorks after the program was absorbed by Apple, Inc. The ClarisWorks program uses the CWK file extension as the default for files. Files with the CWK file extension can contain a document, an image, a database or a spreadsheet. The ClarisWorks program holds applications that can create these files. Aside from these, the program also has a terminal application that presents data as a video terminal does.
• The CWK file extension is also used as the default file extension for documents created by the AppleWorks program. Recent versions of the AppleWorks application are based on the ClarisWorks program. This means that AppleWorks can open files created by ClarisWorks that have the CWK file extension.
• Another program that can view files with the CWK file extension is the FileMaker Pro. Nashoba Systems created early incarnations of the program. The Claris Corporation purchased the company. Claris developed the FileMaker Pro to be compatible with its other programs. This gave the FileMaker Pro application the ability to open files with the CWK file extension. Claris later turned over almost all its products to its parent company Apple after which the company renamed itself FileMaker Inc. FileMaker Pro is a program used to create and manage databases. It can access and gather information from several sources. The application can open documents saved with the CWK file extension to use its data.
• The CWK file extension is also used to store cattle inventory data. The CattleMax program is an application designed to help cattle owners keep track of their animals. Files that can contain individual cattle information use the .cwk file extension. The program stores pictures, medical history, age and statistics with the file extension CWK.
• Another program that uses the file extension .cwk is GC Prevue. GraphiCode created the application. The program is used to design and analyze printed circuit boards. Several electrical firms to check the validity of new designs use it. Circuit board layouts created by the program are saved with the CWK file extension.

How to Open .CWK File Extension

1. Make sure you have one of the programs above installed. If you do and .CWK files still wont open then proceed to step two below.
2. Ensure Windows is set to open .CWK files with the appropriate program. The easiest way to do this is to download Filecure and then select the manage tab on the left. This feature is available free in the Filecure application.
3. If the problem persists then download Filecure if you haven't already, and Click the big green "Start Scan" Button. It takes about 30 seconds to scan your computer for all file extension associations. Once the scan is finished you will see if any problems are detected. If so then Click the Green "Fix Now" Button.
4. Try to open your .CWK File again, The problem should be fixed.
