BUN File Extension Description

The .bun file extension is categorized as a bundle file used to store audio data that would serve as a backup content file for the Cakewalk application. Though the .wrk file extension can be used to store an audio project using the program, the .bun file holds certain advantages that will benefit the user.

By definition, the file with a .wrk extension contains MIDI data, settings, and reference data used by the Cakewalk program. The .bun file extension, however, preserves all audio formats in a single file to any location. Considering the data incorporated into the file, the .bun file size will be much larger compared to the original .wrk format. Opening it up using the application might be slow, considering its size.

To save a Cakewalk project into a .bun file, open the project first and load it into the application. Next, choose "File" and click on "Save As". Change the "Save As Type" to "Cakewalk Bundle" file type. Specify the filename and choose the location where you wish to store the file.

One advantage of the .bun file over the .wrk file is its ability to store all audio data, as well as the reference data of any audio file, used in the project. The .wrk file will only contain the reference data to call an external audio file using the application. Transferring the .wrk file to another system will cause the audio data to be missing; thus, it plays an incomplete version of the Cakewalk audio project.

The .bun file, however, will store the external audio file into itself and integrate it as part of the bundle. This is quite useful in transferring complete audio projects from one system to another.
