BRK File Extension Description

the Brooktrout Fax Software uses the file extension .brk. The Dialogic Company developed the software. The company has a line of telephony devices. These devices allow for electronic communications. One of their primary lines concern electronic faxing.

Electronic faxes are sent on an electrical wire. These can be sent from a conventional fax machine or a fax program. Certain hardware are needed for a fax to be sent from and received by a computer.

The file extension BRK is used for faxes sent from the Brooktrout program. The .brk file extension is also used by incoming faxes that are received with the program. The Brooktrout Fax Software is not the only software compatible with the Dialogic fax hardware and modem. Other software can be used to send and receive faxes with the devices. However, the Brooktrout Fax software is recommended.

Faxes that are received by the software are little more than electronic code. The files are converted to digital document images with the .brk file extension. Files that have the BRK file extension can be emailed to a user or stored in the computer. They are automatically opened with the Brooktrout Fax software. Faxes received are given the .brk file extension. These cannot edit by the user. They are an exact replica of what a printed copy of the faxed message would look like.

Users can create their own faxes, which use the .brk file extension. Files with the BRL file extension can be created with the Brooktrout Fax software. Once finished, the files can be sent to another fax machine, whether electronic or digital.

Files that have the BRK file extension can only be opened with the Brooktrout Software. However, when the files are sent out they are converted back into electric code. This allows even conventional fax machines to access them. This process also allows the data to be accessed by other fax programs. Once the other party receives the fax, it loses the .brk file extension and is either printed out or converted into another format.
