AF2 File Extension Description

The original technology for the file extension AF2 was developed in 1990. The file extension .af2 is a data file that contains project data for a diagram creation program. It was developed to serve as the default format for projects created with the ABC FlowCharter 2.0 program that was created by Micrografx, Inc.

The ABC Flowcharter 2.0 application was created to help make flowcharts by using simple pre-sets and tools. A new file is automatically given the file extension .af2 so that the program can easily adjust to any changes and modifications at a later time. The application comes ready with a number of templates. Templates can be modified to reflect the needs of the user. Using existing tools can also create a new flowchart.

The program has several tools for the creation and building of a flowchart. Shapes and lines can be drawn manually, or available pieces can be used in the creation of a file with an .af2 file extension. Progress can be saved on the file with the .af2 file extension so that changes can be made later. Data contained in the ABC Flowchart file can be modified by changing the colors and sizes of the objects as well as by adding graphics to the charts.

These files are able to store data for different types of charts and diagrams including flowcharts, organizational charts, process flow and structure. Files with the .af2 file extension can also be converted into other image types by the ABC Flowcharter 2.0 program for easy compatibility with other image viewing programs.

The AF2 file extension is unique to the ABC FlowCharter 2.0 application. Other versions of the program append their version number to the end of the file extension. For example, version 3 of the ABC Flowcharter uses the file extension AF3. The .af2 file extension is no longer in active use since the program it is attached to has changed formats to become the Micrografx FlowCharter. The Corel Corporation purchased the company that developed the program. The most recent incarnation of the technology for the flowchart data file is in Corel?s own iGraphix suite.
