The file extension A is used for saved Ada program files. Ada is an object oriented programming language named after the first computer programmer, Ada Lovelace. This programming language was originally created for integration on real time systems. Different versions are available for different processors and are compatible with several operating systems including Linux, Macintosh OS classic, Mac OS X/Darwin, Win 32, Win 64, Win CE, DOS, OS/2, Netware, and MorpOS.

The Free Pascal compiler uses syntax that is compatible with Turbo Pascal 7.0 and Delphi. There is also a compatibility mode for Mac Pascal that is provided for users of Apple computers. Free Pascal, the compiler that uses the A file extension, also supports different operations such as function overloading, global properties, and operator overloading.
