Description:
The EXE wmplayer.exe is the main executable of Windows Media Player, a digital media player and library used for playing audio, video and viewing images. In addition, it can rip music from compact discs as well as burn music in recordable discs. It can also synchronize digital audio content such as MP3.
The default file format of the wmplayer.exe application is WPL, more popularly known as Windows Playlist. However, it also supports other file formats namely WMV, ASF, and WMA. The file is also able to utilize a digital rights management service in the form of Windows Media DRM.
On Windows XP, Windows Media Player has an Advanced Tag Editor, which allows you to add or edit the media information of the music file such as entering track, artist, picture information and comments. The editor also allows you to enter synchronized lyrics as well as information about Web sites for digital media content.
The wmplayer.exe file contains several playlists by default. Playlists are customized lists of digital media files that you want to listen to. By using playlists, you can group various digital media files together and specify the order you want to play in. You can also use playlists to copy files to portable devices or create your own audio CDs.
The Copy to CD or Device feature is provided to copy audio and video files from the Media Library to your portable device or storage. When an item is copied to a portable device, the wmplayer.exe process displays the following information in the Status column:
Inspecting verifies that there is enough space on the device and inspects the selected files for errors
Converting converts the file to the selected quality level or compression rate
Copying copying the selected file and displays the percentage of the copy process
Complete ensures that the copy process is done.
Windows Media Player has several features that require an Internet connection such as the Media Guide, Radio Tuner, Premium Services, Find Album Info, License acquisition and restoration, etc. These features rely on security zones and settings in Internet Explorer to work properly.
