Description:

The wanmpsvc.exe file is also regarded as the WAN Miniport (ATW) Service. If your Internet Service Provider is AOL (America Online), the wanmpsvc.exe file is needed to properly connect to the Internet. WAN stands for Wide Area Network that covers a broad area, or a network that uses routers and public communications links.

Miniport is a type of a hardware-driver; these are USBs, Audios, and SCSI and network card adapters. Therefore, the wanmpsvc.exe file receives commands that the computer needs to connect to the Internet thru the miniport. The wanmpsvc.exe service automatically runs during Windows start up for the reason that if the user wants to connect to the internet thru AOL, the wanmpsvc.exe service is already ready to connect. The wanmpsvc.exe file is automatically installed once you subscribe to AOL.

AOL requires the wanmpsvc.exe file, because every ISP uses different port numbers to establish a connection to the Internet. For instance, Roadrunner, which is another ISP, uses a different port number from AOL. Before the wanmpsvc.exe file starts connecting to the internet, the user must enter the necessary information needed to make sure that he is a registered user of AOL; such information are username and password.

There are several Internet connections offered by AOL, which are Broadband with cable, or DSL and Dial Up. To know that the computer has connected successfully to the Internet, the lights on the modem should be on. In case you are experiencing any problems in connecting to the internet, you can try rebooting your computer and modem, and try to connect again or, you can change the settings of your internet connection, but make sure that you consult first with your Internet Service Provider before doing so.
