Description:

The file wait4IP.exe is a component of Packard Bells Net2Plug utility. Net2Plug is Packard Bells home networking kit, which utilizes the wait4IP.exe file that allows its users to share the Internet or printer through the electrical cabling of the house. The Net2Plug word itself means direct LAN or directly networked. This networking hardware product through the process wait4IP.exe uses the power line communication technology where instead of using a wired or wireless networking, information are sent through the electrical wiring installed in an establishment.

The Net2Plug application and the component file wait4IP.exe are compatible with Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000 or XP. It has a transmission rate of 14 Mbps, using asynchronous and synchronous transmission modes and uses the 84-channel carrier Octagonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with a range of up to 200 meters. It also uses the 56-bit DES with a USB based power supply that has a maximum power consumption of 1.25 Watts and operates between 0 40 oC with a 10 90% humidity. The hardware weighs 73.5 grams and has a dimension of 72 x 50 x 25 cm for its height, width and thickness respectively.

Net2Plug has one utility accessible for its users that is available for downloading on their website and this is the Net2Plug informer and password utility, which also incorporates the wait4IP.exe file. This acts as two different utilities for this hardware, first as an informer that acts as a diagnostic utility to detect and remote Net2Plug adapters. This part checks if these adapters are present, physically on the power grid and if it is functioning normally.

Secondly, it acts as a configuration wizard, which sets up a password for the Net2Plug that is locally connected. Net2Plug adapters should have the same password for it to be able to communicate with each other. The process wait4IP.exe ensures that there is an obtained IP address before the hardware is used. After the process wait4IP.exe has obtained an IP address, it can take further steps in connecting to other devices. Successful installation of the file wait4IP.exe allows the user to click on the Net2Plug icon on the system tray that would provide the users with the IP address of the device.
