Description:

The vsecomr.exe file is responsible for the periodic update prompts of the McAfee VirusScan displayed on the screen. When the computer is connected to the Internet, the vsecomr.exe file automatically checks for updates after every four hours. If there are available updates, the vsecomr.exe file will download and install the updates without interrupting your work.

If there is a product update, the vsecomr.exe file will prompt the user regarding the available update, and the user can choose to update the McAfee VirusScan to remove the threat of virus outbreak. The update is done on a daily basis to make sure that your computer is fully protected against viruses and spyware threats. The updates are also done automatically because for some users, keeping track of security updates and warnings can be a hassle and might take up a lot of time.

There are cases that when the vsecomr.exe file has finished performing an update, it will require you to restart your computer to complete the update. The vsecomr.exe file is helpful to the user in the sense, that it informs the user that he needs to update his McAfee VirusScan, or that his security software is updated with the latest virus definition. Virus definitions are used to remove viruses in your computer; these are composed of codes.

In case there is a virus outbreak and the McAfee VirusScan was not able to remove it, and there is an available update in the McAfee server that might be able to remove the virus, the vsecomr.exe file will notify the user regarding the update.

If the user wishes to perform a manual update, then he can do so by doing a right-click on the McAfee icon in the Windows system tray and choosing Updates. Then, the Security Center Updates dialog box will open asking you if you want to check for updates, the user must then click Check Now. If there is an update available, the VirusScan Updates dialog box will open and the user just has to click the Update button.
