Description:
The vpnservices.exe file is mainly used in the Symantec VPN software to connect with corporate networks. VPN or Virtual Private Network is a communications network, tunneled thru another network that is assigned to a specific network. Companies use VPN to have secure communications via the public Internet. For instance, VPNs can be used to separate the traffic of various user communities over a primary network with strong security features. The vpnservices.exe file enables a secure and high-speed connectivity with the internet.
The vpnservices.exe file connects to one firewall/VPN server and accesses all the resources, such as printer or fax that is granted behind the firewall. Before the vpnservices.exe process can establish a connection to a network, the user must be able to write to the log file in the VPN client folder. Once the vpnservices.exe process is able to establish a connection, the user can now access files or resources available in the network, considering that he has permission on using a specific resource.
The vpnservices.exe process does not only connect a user to a local network that is within the office; it also connects the user to his companys network even if he is at home or in another place. For instance, the user needs to access a file in his office computer; all he has to do is use the vpnservices.exe file to be able to connect to his office computer. The user must enter several data such as username and password before he can log on to his office computer. A connection can only be established when both computers are on, and a VPN software is installed on both computers. In technical terms, the process of connecting a computer with a set of protocols to another computer that also has another set of protocols is called tunneling.
Connecting thru a VPN makes it easier for workers to access important data on their personal computers or office computers. Accessing data thru a VPN is also safe because there are services such as the vpnservices.exe file that acts as a firewall, and allows only a connection to be established to trusted users.
