Description:

The updreg.exe process or the Creative Register Reminder was built for the purpose of reminding the user to register Creative Labs software applications (audio-related programs) and other products in case the users are yet to register on the companys consumer database. To enable or to disable the updreg.exe file is up to the preference of the user. With the registration process guided by the updreg.exe file, users are provided with life-long updates and upgrades for their specific Creative Labs product that can be obtained via the Creative Labs web site.

The updreg.exe file is installed through the LiveWare software, which comes with the SoundBlaster Live or Audigy cards. Installing LiveWare and properly configuring its settings save the profile preferences of the current user, and this is done so through the MS Windows System Registry. The updreg.exe process is included in the installation as its startup item. The purpose of this is to ensure that whenever a profile has recently been created in the computer, the setting will be automatically saved under current user profile in the registry and is replicated to the newly created user profile.

For most users, this is not a needed task and disabling of this is done in the Startup tab, though not recommended. However, with the creation of a new user on the Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003 PC, or even in other versions of PCs, it avoids the hassle in creating a new profile. Saving this task will be useful before creating a new profile up until the reboot after the creation of the profile. Without the updreg.exe file in the computer system while the creation of a new profile is underway, LiveWare programs will be required to be used again. This will take you back into the configuration screen exactly where the very page of the first creation of the users profile had been completed.
