Description:
The ucstartup.exe process is part of the Update Connector Tool for IBM and is installed on IBM computers. The primary function of this process is to install updates to the device(s) drivers. The ucstartup.exe file enables the systems update tool to manage driver installations and firmware updates. The ucstartup.exe file is essential to be able to determine the necessary updates for IBM Systems.
The ucstartup.exe file connects to the Internet and downloads updates from the IBM UpdateXpress Server. The UpdateXpress Server is an Internet-based node implemented to manage multiple versions of IBM firmware and driver device updates from a main repository within the local network. The ucstartup.exe process lets you connect to this service and helps minimize the time, expense and effort that is necessary to maintain and support the latest drivers, BIOS as well as other applications for IBM. Upon execution and connection of the ucstartup.exe file, the Update Connector is able to identify the system status by sorting through the available updates and choosing the ones relevant to the particular system as needed.
The IBM Update Connector has been replaced by an enhanced solution called the ThinkVantage System Update tool which connects directly to the Lenovo e-support system to obtain drivers, BIOS, utilities and other Thinkvantage technology updates. It allows you to get the latest information on devices and can be automatically scheduled to run the updates for your computer. Automatic scheduling can be configured to provide either alert you about available updates, download the updates and provide a notification without installation, and automatically download the updates and have them installed in the background without any human intervention. You can also view the description of the downloaded package items and decline an update and permanently disable that particular update from downloading again.
