Description:

The uclauncher.exe process is included in the ThinkVantage System Update application by Lenovo. The uclauncher.exe process specifically aids in the functions of the ThinkVantage System Updates scheduler. The ThinkVantage System Update is the utility designated to manage and organize system updates of computers deployed with ThinkVantage technologies. The uclauncher.exe process is activated once the Scheduler for the System Update is launched.

With the assistance of the uclauncher.exe file, the scheduler can set the System Update Component to check for the latest available update packages at predefined intervals. Download speeds can be improved on the update packages being downloaded from the Lenovo Servers by modifying the RunOn setting to a specific one that is suitable to the company or end-user. This setting should be carried out upon the installation of the System Update.

The scheduler of System Update has seven configurable items, which can be configured by the user with the uclauncher.exe process. These items include the SchedulerAbility, the SchedulerLock, the SearchMode, the NotifyOptions, the Frequency, the RunOn and the RunAt features.

The settings of the SchedulerAbility will determine if the Scheduler is configured to be launched either automatically or on-demand, this setting has the following options: Yes or No. The SchedulerLock setting determines if the Scheduled updates will be shown to the end-user or not, this setting has the following options: Show, Hide, Lock and Disable. The SearchMode setting allows the user to specify exactly which types of System Updates he wishes the process to handle. This setting has the following options: All, Recommended and Critical.

In the NotifyOptions setting, users can select the notification options they would like to obtain from the System Update scheduler, this setting has the following options: Notify, Download, Download and Install and Download and Install and Reboot. While the Frequency setting will determine the time in which the System Update Scheduler is configured to be activated either Monthly or Weekly. The RunOn setting will determine the particular day that the System Update Scheduler must be activated and the RunAt setting will determine the particular time that the System Update Scheduler must be activated.
