Description:

The process symmon.exe is utilized by the uninst.exe application when the user decides to remove the Norton Antivirus program from the system either permanently or temporarily.

The file symmon.exe is a logging application that monitors the system changes and the files modified during the uninstallation process of Norton Antivirus. It is, however, its functionality is not limited to the uninstallation process. The application symmon.exe also logs the system events that pertain to the Norton Antivirus during the installation of other components for the said program. This is ideal for the archiving of the whole Norton Antivirus Suite, as it is able to keep track of add-ons. It also detects changes or modifications to registry settings, during the whole time the Norton Antivirus program is active in the system.

The symmon.exe files ability to run on different operating systems is dependant on the restrictions of the main antivirus engine.

Sometimes there are minor conflicts between the symmon.exe process and the operating system, which can cause errors to occur during the Norton Antivirus uninstallation process. This is due to the modification of system keys and actual process itself due to a system crash, system restore, or a malware attack which may have altered the natural log of the symmon.exe process

Another issue that may arise with a corrupted instance of the symmon.exe process on the system is the disabling of the whole installation process, which results in certain software components not being duly registered. In this case, it is best to manually delete the symmon.exe file and reinstall the Norton software to load a fresh instance of the process on the system.
