Description:

The application spysweeper.exe, developed by Webroot Software Inc., is a computer software program designed to detect and remove spyware processes on Microsoft Windows-based computers.

Spyware is computer software that is often installed secretly on a computer when a user is browsing the Internet without any spyware protection installed on his or her machine. Spyware programs are considered a threat both to the computer and the user itself since it can collect different types of personal information as well as interfere with the users control of the computer. A spyware can intervene with the users control of the computer in several ways, such as redirecting the user to different websites, installing additional software on the computer, or accessing unsecured websites that can cause the computer to be infected with computer viruses.

The application spysweeper.exe scans the computer for spyware by examining the files on the computers hard disk drive. It also scans for spyware from the objects in the MS Windows System Registry, cookies and Internet files, and quarantines any suspicious object it finds.

Spy Sweeper runs continuously while the computer is in operation. It monitors all Internet operations to warn the user of any suspicious programs running, programs that are set to start automatically and also to block cookies from the Internet. It is designed to keep the computer safe from computer and user threats such as spyware, adware, Trojan viruses and keyloggers, which can all lead to identity theft or fraud, and can most likely cause the computer to run slow. Spy Sweeper also detects threats and blocks possible security problems before it reaches the machine. The application also provides the capability of scanning emails (both incoming and outgoing mails) for any malicious activity of suspected computer threats.

The program spysweeper.exe drops an icon on the system tray after installation, which can allow the user to open the Spy Sweeper main window on right click. Once installed on the computer and the settings configured, Spy Sweeper automatically runs every time Windows boots up and performs its functions of scanning for spyware.
