Description:
The file raid_tool.exe was developed by VIA Technologies as support software for its distributed hardware peripherals (i.e. motherboards and RAM).
The raid_tool.exe process, or VIA RAID Tool, is a RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) that is solely used for VIA chipsets found on the motherboard. The concept behind the RAID controller is a simple method of taking multiple physical drives (e.g. Hard Disk Drive or HDD) and making them function as a single volume. This method also allows for indexed and sorted files, which increases the write and access routines run by the system.
The raid_tool.exe process has no visible window when it is executed during startup, but continues to work in the background. It systemically monitors the VIA chipset in the system, as well as the physical storage devices installed.
The raid_tool.exe process has two main functions which optimize and increase the functionality of the installed storage peripherals. The mirrored method makes a copy of a file and stores it in two different drives. This allows the user to back-up data in case of disk failure or any other computer emergencies.
The second method involves stripping, which saves data in two different drives and splitting it evenly in the process. This increases a drives performance, especially while running read and write routines.
It is advisable to refrain from disabling the raid_tool.exe process from the startup group, unless there is only a single physical storage drive in the system. Doing so may cause the system to slow down or may result in errors with other integral processes in the system.
Recommendations:
This is a safe process. There is no necessity to remove this process from your system or change it in any way.
