The quicktv.exe process is the infrared remote control driver for the Aver TVStudio, TV Tuner from AverMedia. The file is only necessary if you use the remote control manufactured by AVerMedia Technologies, Inc. The file quicktv.exe provides the user with a system tray icon to notify the user that the QuickTV application is active.

TV tuner cards, which the file quicktv.exe controls via remote, are computer components that allow the computer to receive television signals. The tool can also function as a video capture application, which allows you to record TV programs onto your hard disk. TV tuners are also available as a PCI-bus expansion card, PCIe bus or USB device. The TV tuner card contains a tuner, receiver, an analog-to-digital converter for analog TV and a demodulator. Additionally, TV tuners can function as FM radios, thus providing the remote control hardware to add the FM radio control function.

When the quicktv.exe process is installed in the system and activates during startup, it automatically translates generic commands from the computer originally sent by the infrared remote control. The file quicktv.exe sends these commands to the TV tuner card, which in turn, executes the command.

The remote control provides users with the flexibility to flip channels, modify the volume or switch the radio from afar. Through the use of the hardware, users have the full convenience of a TV with the added features of a radio.
