Description:

The process quickres.exe runs the QuickRes utility for Windows 95. This tool is designed to quickly change the desktop resolution without having to reboot the computer. The file quickres.exe is part of the Microsoft Windows Power Toys suite.

Microsoft Windows Power Toys are a set of Windows utilities that were developed for the Windows 95 operating system. The application includes features that should have been integrated into the Windows 95 operating system but were never finished in time. Power Toys was offered after the release of the Windows 95 operating system as a separate add-on, which could be downloaded for free from Microsoft.

To install the file quickres.exe, you can download the Windows 95 Power Toys suite from the authors URL. The program contains several other features aside from QuickRes and comes in a self extracting executable file called W95powertoy.exe.

Most of the Windows 95 Power Toys are made up of either a DLL or an EXE file with an associated INF file. The QuickRes application has the associated files quickres.exe and quickres.inf. The associated INF file of the executable quickres.exe will install the QuickRes application. When installed in the system, the file quickres.exe will add an icon in the system tray that will display your monitors resolution and settings.

However, the file quickres.exe was deemed unnecessary for later versions of the operating system namely, 98, ME, 2000, and XP. This is because the function of the application quickres.exe has been incorporated via the Display option in the Control Panel. There are other third-party software publishers that developed the QuickRes application for the mentioned operating systems. They slightly modified the function of the quickres.exe process by adding the ability to quickly switch between 2 desktop resolutions. Some of these third-party programs are the Frix QuickRes and the 1st QuickRes 1.6b.
