Description:

The Quicken.com Brokerage application includes the file qtask.exe to provide the Desktop Alerts function. The Desktop Alerts utility is a separate tool for the Quicken program. The main function of the file qtask.exe is to automatically alert the user with earnings announcements and other news. Users can also capture a large amount of relevant news stories and brokerage reports through the file qtask.exe. The alert feature of the file qtask.exe can be customized through the Quicken application.

Setting up the qtask.exe process can be done through the Quicken.com option in the Quicken Toolbar. At the Quicken.com screen, click Alerts in the top bar. Clicking the Alerts option from the bar will automatically redirect users to a Sign In screen. After signing in, users can set individual alerts for their stocks and securities. After customizing their alerts, the file qtask.exe will post any user-specified alerts on the desktop whenever the user is connected to the Internet.

Users are advised to run a virus scan to determine the authenticity of the qtask.exe file on their system, as there is a virulent file that also goes by the same name that disguises itself as the legit one. This fake qtask.exe file is dropped into the system by the RBOT-AKU worm.

The most notable feature available from the Quicken.com Brokerage interface, aside from the functions of the qtask.exe process, is the display of the effect of a proposed trade to the users tax liability for the coming year. Together with other useful details related to tax are the pretax and after-tax totals shown in the preview window. The application also conveniently displays information such as real-time quotes and commission amounts.
