Description:
The process pcctlcom.exe belongs to the Internet Security department of the Trend Micro. The process pcctlcom.exe protects an active computer from being infected by computer threats. Threats are either Trojans or spyware. Trojans are software that resembles a computer virus, but on the other hand, Trojans are not computer viruses. Trojans do not spread by self-propagation unlike real computer viruses. However, a spyware is also computer software. Spyware is secretly installed to a computer. This software has the ability to intercept or take partial manipulation over the interaction of the user with the computer, without the permission of the user
The process pcctlcom.exe is vital to the proper operation of the computers operating system and so is the application. Therefore, the process pcctlcom.exe should never be disabled nor terminated.
The worm that the process pcctlcom.exe prevents in penetrating a computer system is propagated via MSN Messenger. The worm sends an instant message to all contacts that are online. Then, the message contains the link: http://msg{BLOCKED}beta8.com/im.php?msn={target recipient's email address}. Once the user clicks the said link, it automatically replicates and leaves a replica of the worm on the computer.
By opening the random TCP ports to get connected to an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) server, the worm uses its ability to enter a system without being noticed by the user. By the time that the worm is connected, the worm finds a channel where it can hear the malicious users command. The command is executed on affected machines locally. Performing the said command compromises the security of an affected system.
The worm can disable numerous processes that are operating on an affected system. The worm also has the ability to block the user in entering an antivirus website. By doing this, the worm makes the affected system unable to detect itself. This also prevents the user to find ways in removing the worm.
