Description:

The file patch.exe comes with the installation of PC-cillin Anti-virus. As described by its developer, the patch.exe process is the anti-virus program's Netbus Worm patch.

The patch.exe process should never be deleted from the system since essential features and functions of all of its dependent applications require it. Under PC-cillin anti-virus, the patch.exe is responsible for keeping the current installed version up to date with the upgrades released by the application's publisher. Since this anti-virus has different versions for its Pro (paid version) and freeware versions, the patch.exe also performs differently, depending on the account type installed. Pro versions tend to have more frequent updates than the freeware. The process patch.exe is configured to be automatic by default; however, the update checking process can also be set to manual, depending on the user's preference.

Though the developer has developed the patch.exe process, this file has also been seen to be compatibly functioning under different types of applications, performing the same function. Certain releases of popular computer gaming applications have been found to use the patch.exe in inducing updates to the program.
