Description:

The mpf.exe file is a part of the McAfee Personal Firewall. It is a proven security application that prevents hacker attacks, safeguards financial files, personal information, photographs and more. It also prevents unnecessary Internet connections to or from a computer.

The file mpf.exe implements the most used monitoring and tracing program. The user can literally watch computer data traffic in two ways;

Default mode. The default mode shows data flow statistics, including averages, speed and comparisons. The statistics also shows a pie chart showing how much bandwidth each software application is using.

Detailed view. A detailed look at each application. This view will zoom in on specific programs, for example MSN Messenger, and list all the IP addresses that the software being monitored is listening to online, and the exact ports in use.

The process mpf.exe also has a trace intrusion capability, which seeks intrusions and traces them back to the point of origin. This type of evidence is very persuasive when reporting destructive websites to ISPs in order for the ISP to reprimand or to block the website.

The basic McAfee Personal Firewall is easy to use and understand, and installation is also easy. It has a set-up assistant that will walk you through installation and once installed on your computer, the Firewall will run quietly in the background. Note that setting-up of and adjustment of security levels and network type setting options can only be made during the set-up procedure.

With McAfee Personal Firewall executed from the process mpf.exe, you can completely control or permit data transfer. In the case of a possible security risk in the form of an unknown port (data doorway), the Firewall can instantaneously and temporarily block the port, giving the user time to investigate and allow access to the port as required.
