Description:

The Live Online Portal or Lop.com is provided by the process mp3search.exe. It is an adware component that is installed on your computer. It is mainly a pay-per-click search portal where other websites pay for each click-through to their site via LOP. The process mp3search.exe is an installer that turns the users Web browser into a device with an apparently unlimited links to lop.com.

The application mp3search.exe is coupled with two other component files inside the folder containing the users current wallpaper: one is an HTML file and the other is a shockwave file. The HTML file executes a code to install the shockwave file. The installer sets the HTML file as users wallpaper so that the flash search engine program is sitting on the desktop at every boot. The flash file merely opens and closes a chain of collapsible menus that contain more LOP Internet shortcuts and search function that queries lop.com.

The lop.com implemented by the process mp3search.exes newer version has removed this desktop feature but installed a basic browser that uses the Web browser engine of the Internet Explorer. And eventually the LOP installer also makes damaging changes to Mozilla Navigator, Internet Explorer, and most likely Netscape Navigator. Changes are also done to the toolbar settings, default search engine pages, and homepage. The LOP installer executed by the file mp3search.exe adds a number of Internet shortcuts in Internet Explorers Favorites folder and in Mozillas Bookmark.htm file.

These LOP installers generate a browser help object or BHO, a DLL module that allows developers to customize and control Internet Explorer. The created BHO will have access to all the events and properties of that browsing session, which creates an Internet Explorer accessories toolbar full of lop.com links. This BHO takes control of the browser to make it redirect to lop.com if there are some errors in loading a page.

The LOP installer finishes up by creating a register entry to load the file mp3search.exe at every machine boot. This registry will make Windows boot process load the lop.com executable file on each computer startup.
