Description:

The Digidesign Pro Tools LE software is launched by the program file mmerefresh.exe. With the file mmerefresh.exe, the midi ports on the 002(R) and audio/midi converter linked to your computer through Firewire are refreshed. The process mmerefresh.exe must also be operational in order to access the MIDI functionality of the Digi002R.

The file mmerefresh.exe is packaged with analog, digital, and MIDI I/O, and it supports up to 96 kHz sample rate for high-definition recording. It allows the user to interface their Digidesign hardware with their computer. The Digi002R needs to be connected to an unused USB port to work properly. It does not function with a USB Hub, making things more awkward with other setups. However, the Digi002R takes its power from the USB port.

The Digi002R offers two analogue audio inputs where you can feed your microphone, a line-level signal, or a direct instrument signal connector. The A/D and D/A converters and the S/PDIF input and output are all in 24-bit clarity rate working at 44.1 or 48 kHz sampling rate.

The Digidesign Pro Tools LE Manager implemented by the application mmerefresh.exe blends or mixes audio for playback purposes. This software also prevents latency delay that normally appears when you monitor inputs that go through the computer and back out to the speaker. It creates distortion caused by overdubbing. Through Pro Tools LE software, the user can control delay by muting the track being recorded, causing the latency delay not to be heard from the monitor. Afterwards, the user can adjust the Mix control to feed the incoming signal from the instrument he or she is recording directly into the stereo mix.

The clever trick is to balance the Mix control somewhere in between two extremes, input position and playback output. Just make sure you hear enough input directly via Digi002R so you could play or sing into the microphone without being cut off by the latency delay in the monitor while hearing enough of the playback in the speaker. One of the best ways to work out with latency value to use in your recording is to simply look at the exact position of the samples where the audio starts and compare them to where the MIDI note is placed then adjust them in exact even position and you will have a good balance of both input and output.
