Description:

The Matrox BIOS is provided by the application mgabg.exe. The application is part of Matrox graphic card basic input/output system for Matrox Video card series. It is used to makes sure all the chips and other functionalities within the card functions at it best.

The process file mgabg.exe is coupled within every Matrox graphic board to ensure the cards ability to independently drive the monitor. The graphic card itself is implemented and housed as a single, small chipped AGP card. A large graphic processor chip hidden under a substantial aluminum heat sink dominates the board. This microprocessor is the hardware component. To get the work done, this microprocessor will carry out a set of instructions known as application software. The process mgabg.exe executes the type of software this card needs to operate successfully.

The Matrox BIOS does a number of different roles within the graphic card, but the most important role is to load up its operating system. When the computer is turned on, the chips get instructions from somewhere but because the operating system is located in the hard disk, the chips cannot get it without some instructions on how to get them and the process file mgabg.exe provides those instructions. Some of these instructions could include the following set of operation:

power on self-test for all different components in the system to make sure everything is working properly

activate other BIOS chips on different cards

The program mgabg.exe acts also as interrupt handlers in Matrox graphic card. It acts as a translator between the hardware components and the operating system. It also implements the device driver, another piece of software that identifies the base hardware components of the graphic card.
