Description:
The MSN Messenger is implemented by the process file messenger.exe. This application is part of MSN Messenger Instant Messaging Software, a freeware for instant messaging purposes that was developed by Microsoft for computers running the Microsoft operating system. With this service you can find out when your friends are online so you can send them messages or you could opt to chat with several people at once.
The process messenger.exe is coupled with an MSNIM protocol handler and a passport credential system that makes it possible for any Web site to provide links and automatically add the contact and start conversations. The application is enhanced with voice clip feature that lets the user hold down F2 button and automatically record a message for maximum of fifteen seconds and even send it to the intended recipient. The process messenger.exe when running also executes a browser-based messaging program called MSN Web Messenger, which allows MSN user to instantly send message to people in their contact list.
The MSN Messenger implemented by the file messenger.exe uses Windows installer for its auto-updating features. When any user selects a Yes button to any update prompt when logging in, an MSP file will be downloaded by the same application, updating that version to the most recent one and have it executed in the background.
MSN Messenger uses the Microsoft Notification Protocol (MSNP), a protocol developed by Microsoft for use by the .NET Messenger Service over transmission control protocol (TCP). This protocol provides a more reliable system for the transfer of a stream of bytes that makes it ideal for applications like file and e-mail deliveries. .NET Messenger Service servers currently accept MSNP protocol, and the syntax of a new command using sniffers like Wire shark is compatible to MSN Messenger.
The process messenger.exe provides its clients a low level of integration with Microsoft Xbox Live as its Internet Gaming service provider. The user of MSN Messenger can go to the Xbox Website and link their gamertag, (which is another name or universal name for players username), to Microsofts .NET Passport network. This will enable MSN Messenger to have the Xbox Live users friends list reported and allow them to send a game invitation to any player.
