Description:

Before deleting the LiveUpdate directory, you should first obtain the file lusetup.exe file. This is the update software that makes sure all other Symantec products such as Norton Antivirus, Systemworks, Personal Firewall and Ghost you have are the very latest.

The lusetup.exe file is required to install a new version of the application. This is a comprehensive list of processes running in your computer. It is normally left to run at start-up.

The lusetup.exe file should be left alone and be allowed to run, because if it is unchecked it may break the functionality of a particular program.

The file lusetup.exe normally leaves to run at start-up. To get control over your startup programs we suggest Glary Utilities Pro. The file lusetup.exe must work properly to ensure that you are protected against new virus threats as they are released onto the Internet.

As long as you have access to the lusetup.exe file, it is very safe to delete everything inside the Live Update folder C:\Program Files\ Symantec\ LiveUpdate because the file lusetup.exe will replace these files. You may either browse to this directory, highlight all the files and then click delete or click on one file in that directory, press Ctrl+A and then press the delete key. You may run the lusetup.exe file that you copied to another directory. This will reinstall LiveUpdate onto your computer and, most importantly, replace the offending file(s) that were causing the error. When the lusetup.exe program finishes, click Finish or OK. Choose your Desktop as the location to save the lusetup.exe file.

The lusetup.exe file is often included within the LiveUpdate directory at C:\ Program Files\ Symantec\ LiveUpdate\ lusetup.exe. You should copy the file ltsmmsg.exe to another directory or onto your desktop for use later in this procedure. In other words, you are copying a file from the directory you are about to delete.
