Description:
The Tivoli TME (Tivoli Management Environment) developed by IBM is a suite of distributed systems management (DSM) products. TME architecture used in large customer environments allows for the managing and control of users, applications, systems, and data across heterogeneous, distributed computing environments. This software uses the lcfep.exe file to manage the PC from a central Tivoli server in a corporate environment.
The process file lcfep.exe is a component of Tivoli TME system tray icon that displays statistics about Endpoint. As a process file for Tivoli Endpoint, the lcfep.exe file allows users to view statistics about the management operations performed by endpoint. The endpoints, or in technical terms the Tivoli Management Agents, are installed on every node that is a target for distributing, monitoring, and other management functions of the Tivoli Management Framework.
A service called the lcfd is used by Tivoli to manage corporate PCs from a central location. The endpoints treat the lcfd as a daemon that can execute methods at the request of its managing system or the gateway. Whenever an application calls on a method to be executed on the endpoint, it is downloaded automatically to the endpoint and eventually executed locally by the lcfd daemon.
The lcfep.exe file initializes display of endpoint statistics even when it uses a dataless method. Such a method runs directly on a TMA endpoint. This is implemented via a special application mini-runtime library named libmrt that contains a subset of Tivoli operations.
The Tivoli database used in corporate environments is also displayed using the TME system tray icon through which the lcfep.exe process performs its operation. When displaying Tivoli database, the lcfep.exe application retrieves the user profiles stored in it, including basic user information such as name, employee number, e-mail address, and others. Attributes of the LDAP directory service are mapped to the Tivoli attributes. This operation can be done using the Tivoli LDAP attribute named mapping function.
