Description:
The application lcdc.exe displays information on Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) or Vacuum Fluorescent Displays (VFD) screens.
Developers of LCDC use plugins to expand the functionality of the lcdc.exe application. At present, LCDC is looking at exclusively powering Matrix Orbital products. Features like GPO (General Purpose Outputs) that can be used to turn things on and off are made available in Matrix Orbital. It also features keypad connectivity.
The lcdc.exe application is capable of implementing onscreen virtual display. This feature allows the users to see what the LCD/VFD screen is displaying. While the virtual display does not guarantee 100% accuracy, as it does not show bitmaps, it tries to emulate all information as best as possible. Various options are made available with virtual display, such as changing the style and position of display. LCDC automatically remembers the position of the virtual screen.
Other option controls on lcdc.exe application include button controls on the virtual display for text colour, background colour, and master BG (or the color around the display). LCDC can also perform specific actions when the virtual display sends fake keypad strokes using the virtual key A-E. The GPO status button allows users to turn on or off small pictures that displays the current GPO status. Finally, there is the show button that sets the default settings of the buttons on the virtual display.
As mentioned above, plugins are integrated into LCDC to expand its functionality. These plugin are actually essential so that the lcdc.exe application can perform actions beyond displaying information onscreen. The LCDC function is expanded by each of its plugin in three ways:
As variables. The plugins allow anything that a user wants to display on screen to be sent as variables.
As events. The plugins allow actions to occur on LCDC as a result of an event, such as when pressing the keypad that will send keys into action.
As actions. The plugins provide that for every event, a resulting action takes place.
