Description:

The process laokey.exe or Lao Script for Windows works as an extension to Windows that allow Lao language to be used with Windows applications.

The Lao Script for Windows implements both Unicode and non-Unicode fonts. The laokey.exe file contain functions for scripting many different Lao/English True Type fonts, such as Saysettha OT, an OpentType Lao Unicode font designed for screen and webpage use.

The process laokey.exe is also used for keyboard mapping in which Lao text is automatically wrapped at word or syllable boundaries with any compatible application. This is an optional feature of the Lao Script for Windows program. The laokey.exe process automatically inserts break characters that are invisible. This is done while text is being typed or applied afterwards to selected text using menu commands.

By using the keyboard interface of LaoKey, the laokey.exe file initiates an application for keyboard management. With the laokey.exe program, the input of Lao text is possible either through the Lao standard typewriter keyboard or by just typing a Romanized equivalent for the Lao syllables.

The Lao Script for Windows is integrated with easy-to-understand menu functions. Through this menu, spell checking can be optionally set too automatic. This feature makes use of a Lao dictionary as well as syllable rules. As an added functionality, a user-defined dictionary for additional words or names is also used. Similarly, the user is given the option to convert Word documents using Lao font code conventions. For example, the font alice_5 can be converted to Alice5 Unicode; Sysettha Lao can be converted to Unicode fonts, and so on.

In Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint applications, the laokey.exe file implements Lao menu add-ins that simplify font conversion and allows for sorting in Lao alphabetical order.
